Who is “I am South African”?
We are an organisation born out of passion from a few diverse South Africans who are intensely proud of their country, have working relationships and friendships that cut across all races, genders, cultures, and backgrounds – we yearn for a time when we are not divided, but rather work together in the spirit of Masakhane, to catalyse South African prosperity. We have found common purpose in the need to change the narrative and re-engineer a country to one that celebrates our inimitable diversity, embracing inclusion from all aspects, and focussed on equality in economic participation and progress.
Mission
Our mission is to create an initiative that will drive a movement of at least 5.8 million (10%) action-taking ‘Ubuntuzens’ to help achieve our vision of creating a better country with positive GDP growth rates year on year, and continuous seamless climb to the top of the Happiness Index. I am South African is an initiative that opens up a space for engaged citizens, to use their collective voice to end the many issues we are afflicted with by 2030. On our soon to be released platform, you will be given the opportunity to take action on those issues, and earn rewards and awards for your actions, to convert to the things that are meaningful to YOU. At the centre is that spirit of Masakhane, being part of an Ubuntu-driven society dedicated to enduring change.

VISION
Our founder created a concept from which ‘I am South African’ was born, called UBUNTU-OLOGY
UBUNTU-OLOGY is a concept founded on the basis of truly investing in our South African Ubuntu philosophy, by making it tangible and visible, turning it from philosophy into actions, words, and behaviours. Igniting the graph of South Africanism – in seeing, teaching, learning, reconstructing and reinvigorating our people through acts of Ubuntu, empowering our nation, all towards progress and prosperity for all.
Ubuntu must be seen in behaviours and acts of humanity, to be truly felt. It needs to be measured to be truly understood, and it needs to continually be built upon to make it meaningful. Most importantly, it must be linked to the things that matter to ordinary South Africans, at the most grass roots levels, in order for it to be truly impactful. Economic empowerment, transport, alleviation of poverty, healthcare, etc, are all factors of our country’s needs and expectations…of-and-by its people.
Connecting Ubuntu philosophy, actions and behaviours of inclusion and cohesion, and the gaps or needs above – are critical to progress and prosperity. It is this void, we are trying to fill, by asking South Africans to take back their power – to do something for ourselves and each other in closing the gaps that are meaningful to us as a people.
Brand South Africa recently asked the question:
“What does it mean to be South African?”
With the raison d’etre of “I AM South African” we answer this question!
Raison d’etre
I am South African is a nationally focussed, globally exposed advocacy organisation working to catalyse a movement towards ending the many afflictions preventing us from progress and prosperity. We will show you the many issues at various levels i.e. community, city, country – that need our intervention, and collectively, through both digitalised touch points AND non-digital campaigns, activities and programmes, we will create an ecosystem for you to participate in. The best part is that you will be rewarded for your efforts in an ‘Ubuntuzen’ dashboard that shows your efforts, points accumulation, and opportunities for impact. We want you to bring your South African-ness, that thing that connects us all to this.
